Celebrating Purim (Not Christmas)

Celebrating Purim
St valentines day and pancake day. Aka shrove Tuesday has just passed. With Christmas and new years festivities not too far behind that. Plus the 3rd birthday of my youngest son was in December. However. We don't celebrate birthdays. Christmas. Valentines day. Pancake day or the New Year. Neither do we observe any other commercial. Pagan occasions. We only celebrate traditional Bible feast days. With Purim our most looked forward to holiday of the four. Those that call themselves Hebrew Israelites. Israeli's and Jewish celebrate Purim.
Purim comes from the word Pur. Which means to cast lots.
Esther 9:24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them,
The full story behind Purim can be read in the book of Esther.
We read that a feast was had and portions (presents) or gifts were given to one another. As well as to the poor.
Esther 9:22 As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.
Purim is a two day celebration in February. The Bible tells us that we are to remember and keep Purim each year.
Esther 9:27 The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;
Esther 9:28 And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.
For Purim, we always decorate the house. Read the story of Purim. Pray. Worship and party. We also enjoy a delicious meal and give presents to each other for Purim. There is controversy around the official date to celebrate Purim. In our house we go by the Enoch calendar and book of Jubilees calendar dates.
Our Past Purim Memories
This is our 6th official year spent celebrating Purim. A few years before that. We first gave up celebrating Christmas and birthdays. It was really hard. As we had assumed there were no fun holidays to be enjoyed to replace Christmas and birthday's. It was especially hard on our son who was an only child at the time. Although he accepted our change in beliefs really well. Having enjoyed many years of birthday and Christmas celebrations in the past.
Worldly festivities seem so fun and innocent. However. Satan comes as an angel of light. To get mankind to worship false idols. Which goes against the ten commandments given to us by I Am that I Am. Most of the mainstream holidays of this world have very evil back stories. True followers of Christ should only partake in biblical feast days such as Purim. As these point back to the creator of heaven and earth.
For Purim four years ago, we had a shiny gold pinata filled with sweets. My oldest son. Husband and I really enjoyed our first ever pinata at Purim. It's a fun activity to include for Purim.
Two years ago, our youngest son enjoyed his very first Purim. At the tender age of 1. We dressed in traditional Hebrew attire. With fringes and a border ribbon of blue. However, we now know that the fringes weren't quite correct. Our home was decorated for Purim. Using helium filled balloons. Vegan Cupcakes and a giant cracker that said peace. The cracker had some lovely bath bombs inside. Traditionally, us Hebrew Israelites greet one another with the word "Shalom". Which means peace in Hebrew. So the peace cracker was the perfect fit.
Purim 2021
Purim 2021 might just be our best Purim yet. Our youngest son is now three. Really into exploring. Conversing and learning new things. His energy brings us so much joy. This will probably be the first Purim he actually remembers.
In the past I've received some beautiful Purim gifts. My scented candles with crystals hidden in the wax were a favourite.
This year for Purim 2021, my husband was unfortunately at work til the early evening. On the first day of Purim. So I spent the daytime with the kids. Making milk chocolate rice crispy cakes and white chocolate cornflake cakes.
My youngest son practiced spelling by helping me pick out the correct letters to spell the word Purim on our decorative light box.
Some dinner crackers came through the post. Along with my most anticipated gift for Purim. A gift to myself. From myself. Along with a gift to my husband. It was a box from high end British perfumery Penhaligons. I was glad that my purchase also contained a free surprise gift. Giving me a surprise to look forward to. You can make money from your online shopping like I do. I'm in love with Penhaligons portraits series the bewitching Yasmine. With Halfeti for the man in my life. If you want perfume for him and her that smells expensive. Is more exclusive than commercial fragrances like Gucci or Calvin Klein and lasts all day. You will love Penhaligons!
I hid some presents in a treasure hunt. For my youngest son to find around the home. It took him just over four minutes to find four presents with barely any help!
We partied into the night. With some nice ambient lighting from artificial tea lights. Our electric indoor fireplace. Large wax pillar candles and a light letter box. With the word purim.
We also enjoyed some colour changing party lights.
Dinner was vegan hot dogs. Cucumber and Sweetcorn salad with roast baby potatoes. Washed down with sweet alcohol free sparkling wine.
It was nice to sit together. Without the distraction of technology (almost) and just talk. We've been guilty of not eating round a table together in quite some time. We don't actually have a dining table. So we sat together on the sofa and pulled some of the crackers that arrived in the post earlier that day after dinner.
The colourful crackers contained party hats. Gifts. Jokes and trivia questions.
I'm so glad Purim is a two day event. It really makes up for not getting to celebrate birthday's. Christmas and the rest.
On day two of our 2021 Purim celebration. We dressed up for some family photos. Played pass the parcel. Then opened our main gifts. Thanks to pound toy. A cheap online toy store. I was really able to spoil the kids with lots of fun toys. Sweets. Arts and crafts.

Some of our main gifts this Purim were a pretty rose gold karaoke microphone. Get yours here :
A soft, pink fluffy blanket from my sons to me.
A kids doctor set
Scented putty dough
A beautiful frankincense gold and myrrh candle
Frankincense and myrrh aromatherapy roller oil
In the evening we sang karaoke. Read bible Scriptures about Purim in the book of Esther. Prayed and pulled the last of our crackers.
The gifts will keep our kids busy for a while. Praise the most high!
It used to feel lonely celebrating Purim on our own. Although we have a few Purim celebrating friends. We don't get together and celebrate. Most people celebrating Purim are part of a "physical" church. Or what Hebrew Israelites call a "camp". However. As with most things in this world. There is corruption and politics surrounding most religious establishments.
We originally started our Purim celebrations when we were going to a Hebrew Israelite camp.
It's a shame that people can't agree on the official date to celebrate Purim. It's not a publicly observed holiday like pagan Guy Fawkes or Shrove Tuesday. Plus, our family members don't keep bible feast days.
Thankfully. I no longer feel lonely celebrating Purim. I get to enjoy Purim with my closest friends. My husband and children. Since we are now a four person household. Purim is really enjoyable and sentimental.
