Goodwood Festival of speed 2022

My first time at Goodwood festival of speed was an overwhelmingly fun experience. There isn't much in depth detail online prior to the festival about all that takes place at Goodwood. So be prepared to do a lot of walking and independent exploration.

Ask members of staff along the way for help and advice. I recommend arriving as early as possible unless you're going to Goodwood festival of speed on more than one day. 7.30am was the opening time. First thing I recommend doing when you arrive is registering for the free jaguar driving. Land rover and Porsche experiences. As the limited time slots get booked up fast.

There were also two AMG Petronas F1 W13 E Performance simulator rides accepting walk ups for £10 per person. The e-car section in electric avenue had a few free interactive activities also.

This year Goodwood festival of speed celebrates 50 years of the BMW M. Plus Nigel Mansell the winner of 1992 F1 World drivers championship and 31 grand prix is joining a cast of other celebrated drivers to recreate his winning moment. 

There are loads of food and drink options. I was quite surprised by the sheer amount of variety and quality of the food options. All tastes were catered for at the Goodwood festival of speed.

For those into luxury like me. There was a Veuve Clicquot champagne bar and cafe. Plus a lambourghini restaurant. Providing sit down. Table service. The Porsche cafe however required pre-booking. 

Mr porter Chicane near the Brooklands paddock was another great spot to grab a drink in comfortable and stylish surroundings. With a library. Video wall and series of talks to enjoy. 

For the full luxury experience. You can pre-book a number of hospitality packages. The start line club which provides private access to a large garden and an excellent viewpoint of the starting point for the races taking place. 

Or how about access to Goodwoods exclusive members only clubhouse. From here you can enjoy breakfast. Lunch. A champagne afternoon tea plus unlimited beer. Wine and soft drinks. This hospitality package also includes private shuttle service to and from the main festival site. 

You could also choose to enjoy the festival of speed from the Duke & Duchess’s private garden. Or the clark Pavilion. For trackside viewing at the most dramatic corner on the course.

For lunch I enjoyed a veggie Truffle burger with Truffle and parmesan chips. Delicious! Dessert was a delicious mint choc chunk ice cream from the luxury ice cream stand. 

As they say. You get what you pay for, as this was a generously sized. Quality mint ice cream. With huge chocolate chunks in a wafer cone. Earlier I also had a soft serve ice cream from one of the ice cream trucks dotted around the festival. Which was a delicious vanilla ice cream. Uniquely dipped in bubblegum sherbert. 

Most food options outside of the hospitality packages are food stands. Where you'll find yourself squeezing onto picnic benches with others when it gets busy. And boy does it get busy here!

There is the Thakeham family area providing fun for young children and space away from busy crowds. Although there were a few kids in attendance. It's very busy. Noisy and dusty. 

If you have asthma or other respiratory conditions. Goodwood festival of speed might trigger a reaction so go prepared.

Races take place all day long. With luxury cars. Racing cars. Vintage cars and bikes taking to the track. Plus a red arrow air show took place on the Friday when I visited. David Beckham was in attendance on the Thursday and a Prince was said to have been racing on the day that I visited.

Regular readers of my blog know that I was also fortunate enough to visit Salon Prive in the spring earlier this year. Some luxury car brands at Goodwood were not at Salon Prive like the Bugatti.

With some exceptional cars making their UK debut at the Goodwood Festival of speed. Such as Maserati's twin-turbo V6 Grecale Trofeo. 

Goodwood as the name suggests is about thrills. With races and stunts taking place alongside the casual festival atmosphere.
