Souffle pancakes, also known as Japanese souffle pancakes, are a popular dessert originating from Japan. Unlike traditional American-style pancakes that are dense and thick, souffle pancakes are light and fluffy with an airy texture.
The origin of the dish can be traced back to Osaka in the 1970s when a restaurant named "Eggs 'n Things" first introduced it to their breakfast menu. The popularity of these fluffy delights soon spread throughout the country, and they became a staple in many Japanese cafes and restaurants.
The secret to making perfect souffle pancakes lies in the technique used to whip up the egg whites until they form stiff peaks. This creates an incredibly light batter that is cooked over low heat for an extended period until it rises like a soufflé.
Today, this delicious dessert has gained worldwide recognition and can be found on menus across London's best eateries. From classic flavors like vanilla or chocolate to more exotic toppings such as matcha powder or fresh fruits – there's something for everyone!
