My Experience In Krakow

Krakow is the second largest city in Poland and I went to visit for a mini city break in November. I was invited to stay at the New port hotel, which is a riverside hotel. New port hotel has a 24hour reception and is situated right next to a small fairground. Complete with ferris wheel and even a hot air balloon that takes off on scheduled days.

Our room was the premium suite, which had a spacious terrace overlooking the river. Swans regularly visit and the receptionist even gave us some bird feed to feed them with during our stay. Rooms are complete with a mini fridge, unlimited teas and coffees in the reception and in our room. And with a complimentary breakfast up until 1:00 p.m, you'll have the option of either enjoying it as a breakfast or a lunch.

Hala Forum opposite the hotel where breakfast is held also has a small arcade section, nightclub and a rooftop bar. There were loads of different food outlets inside, so you never have to go far to satisfy your thirst and hunger cravings - which is nice.

If you just want a mini break away without having to venture far from the hotel, New port hotel is a great option. You can book an in room massage, and deliveroo takeaway options. Solo travellers will love it too, because everything is close by and transportation is easy to access.

For our first full day in Krakow we did an 11-hour long tour to the zakopane mountains - just under 2 hours driving distance away. Our tour guide explained some information about the area. We had multiple stops where we could walk around. Take some pictures and we also got to sample some traditional smoked cheese and some alcoholic beverages.

The final stop was at the largest thermal spa in Poland. Chocholow thermal baths include fun slides and kids pools. Adult jacuzzis. A salt cave and dry sauna, with the main attraction being the open air spa where we floated out just in time for a beautiful sunset.

The heated waters were calming with the option to play volleyball and basketball in the water beneath the sky. So it's great for families, kids, couples and adults. Locker rooms are mixed gender and quite large and busy. There are also some sauna rooms where adults go without clothing, but staff will make you aware of which ones.

More things to do in Krakow include visiting the market Square in the old town. Here you can go on a romantic horse ride. Probably best to visit during the festive season as the Christmas markets are a sight to see.

A visit to St. Joseph's cathedral is another one of my top picks. If you're looking to visit and take photos in front of one of the prettiest castle style structures in the city. You can also enjoy a cruise over the vistula river. Make it a party with a DJ and drinks included. Or do some wakeboarding.

Poland city Krakow
Krakow is the perfect city to visit for those that celebrate Halloween, as they have an immersive horror show just for adults and there are different levels of intensity. The mildest being pain-free fun and not too frightening.

Medium or moderate includes more scares and advanced or intense includes physical contact and pain! From the comments I've seen some people have been tasered and the haunt lasts for about 30 minutes! I'm just shocked that such an extreme excursion even takes place anywhere in the world!

Pretty cafes and bars to update on your Instagram feed are another option during your visit. My cafe suggestions are Noel, cafe Camelot. Skinny creme, Nicole cafe and Bonbon boutique.

For an evening drink with fun photo opportunities, check out bubble toast cocktail bar. Complete with a ball pit. Should you fancy late night bar fun, head to the arcade bar.

Museums are a plenty, but not all are worth the visit. With museums like the pinball museum, arcade museum and banksy museum. I highly suggest booking the stained glass museum, you'll be given a guided tour and can also book a workshop to do your own stained glass painting and even decorate jewellery which you can then gift or keep!

We visited the museum of illusions which was fun and I highly recommend. Kids and teens would love it too. The gift shop surprisingly had a lot of interesting gifts that I knew my son would love, so that's where we ended up spending most of our money!

Another unique spa in Krakow for those in need of some relaxation is the beernium spa. Where you can enjoy your own private beer or wine bath. Relax in the sauna and sample unlimited beer and wine.

Historical and Cultural Significance of Krakow

Krakow stands as a vibrant testament to Poland’s rich history and cultural heritage. Once the royal capital, it's steeped in legends that echo through its cobblestone streets.

The Wawel Castle, perched majestically on a hill, reveals tales of kings and queens. It’s not just an architectural marvel; it embodies centuries of Polish resilience.

Best Time to Visit Krakow

Krakow boasts a charm that changes with the seasons. Spring, from March to May, brings blooming flowers and mild weather. This is an ideal time for strolls around the Main Market Square.

Summer can be bustling. June through August sees tourists flocking in for festivals and outdoor events. The warm temperatures make it perfect for exploring local attractions but expect larger crowds at popular sites.

Autumn showcases vibrant foliage as the city transforms into a kaleidoscope of colors. September to November offers cooler days and serene walks along the Vistula River.

Winter casts its spell from December to February, blanketing Krakow in snow. The Christmas markets come alive, filling the air with festive cheer and aromatic treats. Each season has something unique to offer visitors seeking an enriching experience in this historic city.

Traditional Food and Drinks to Try in Krakow

Krakow is not on the top of my list for food. Traditional options include pierogi - dumplings filled with potatoes, cheese, or meat. They’re often served with crispy onions and sour cream.

Another classic dish is żurek, a hearty sour rye soup typically garnished with sausage and hard-boiled eggs. This dish warms you up on chilly days.

For something sweet, indulge in obwarzanek krakowski. These braided pretzels are sold by street vendors and make for perfect snacks as you explore the city.

I tried a chimney cake filled with ice-cream. This eastern European dessert is a local favourite.

Pair your meals with local drinks like Żywiec beer or mead to truly embrace Polish flavors. For a unique experience, sip on nalewka - a homemade fruit liqueur that packs a punch.
