Vogue Inventing the runway at Kings Cross
I went to the pre-launch of Vogue - inventing the runway. Held at the lightroom in Kings cross St. Pancras London, this is an artistic exhibition displayed in vivid detail.
Visitors to Vogue: the history of the runway got to enjoy a 50-minute documentary played on loop, featuring some of the most iconic fashion shows known to man; replayed with top of the range quality visual enhancements and a crisp sound system.
Additional high-tech graphics run across the floor and all four walls, which are all larger than life. Upstairs at the lightroom, visitors can order snacks and drinks. Sit and chat before enjoying the show.
Downstairs is a cloak room, with merchandise to purchase fashion themed items to inspire and entertain both kids and adults. Included in the gift shop are copies of Vogue magazine.
On route to the stage you really feel like you're going to take part in the fashion show yourself, because the set is designed just like an authentic behind the scenes runway show.
Guests get their Polaroid snapped - just as a model would after hair and makeup. There are mirrors with lights where it looks like you could sit down and get your makeup done before heading out to the stage.
Then there's a narrow corridor and some handwritten text on a wall telling models to smile and enjoy themselves.
These are just little things that remind me of what it is to model. The immersive exhibition itself is very interesting and well produced, so I highly recommend checking it out while you can.
Vogue: Inventing The Runway is available to experience from 13th November 2024 until 26th April 2025. Student and family discounts are available, and under 3's go free.
Visit www.lightroom.uk to book.
This wasn't my first time at the lightroom, as I was invited to this stunning venue - launched in 2023, to watch the pr launch of the moonwalkers - presented by Tom hanks.
It was a family friendly, detailed and fascinating ascent into space.

More about Vogue inventing the runway
Step into a new exhibition that delves into the rich history of the fashion runway show. From its humble beginnings in intimate couture salons of the early 20th century.
To its current status as unforgettable pop-culture events, this immersive experience will take you on a journey through time.
Narrated by Cate Blanchett, the show will tap into Vogue's extensive archive and network of contributors to curate a one-of-a-kind event, featuring top voices in the fashion industry from past, present, and future.
“At Vogue we’ve been lucky enough over the decades to see many incredible runway shows, which have often told the story of fashion as much as the clothes themselves.
This Lightroom experience is a wonderful opportunity for a lot more people to experience first hand the thrill of watching the history of fashion unfold right in front of them.”
Anna Wintour, Chief Content Officer, Condé Nast, and Global Editorial Director, Vogue.
Through a combination of personal accounts and diverse forms of media, Inventing the Runway uncovers the transformation of fashion shows into a designer's ultimate manifestation of their vision.
These runway presentations not only serve as reflections of their identity but also constantly evolve with each new season and year. This book is a tribute to the ingenuity, dedication, and fervor that have reinvented our perception of fashion.
"Runway shows have reflected society and its values for more than a century. We hope that Inventing the Runway gives audiences a better understanding of how those shows mirror the changes.
Not only in fashion, but also culture at large - the arts, entertainment, technology, politics, and the ways that they’re all intertwined."
Mark Guiducci, Creative Editorial Director, Vogue.
Inventing the Runway will take readers on a journey through various thematic chapters, enhanced by dynamic animation and a captivating soundscape.
The combination of classical and pop music in the score will transport audiences to the pivotal moments when legendary shows influenced cultural norms.
“It’s fitting to host this Lightroom experience within skipping distance of Central Saint Martins, where so many of the UK’s fashion students begin their journeys to becoming designers we know and love.I hope that the exhibition can be an educational tool that brings to life the most iconic cultural moments through fashion’s lens, for the next generation of aspiring designers.”
Chioma Nnadi, Head of Editorial Content for British Vogue.
